Abstract

This design is the result of a project conducted in a junior-and-senior-level portfolio development course during the Fall 2023 semester. The goal was to create a compelling garment collection addressing significant environmental and social issues. Through the "Sustainability Blooming" project, the designer explored the critical issue of sustainability in clothing. The goal of this design was to create garments that inspire aesthetically and champion environmental responsibility. In this design, the designer aimed to showcase sustainable fashion using plant-based materials and innovative eco-friendly practices. Linen, a bast fiber with anti-allergic characteristics, was chosen for its low impact and suitability. The design process included creating digital mood boards, developing prints, and constructing a garment using sustainable linen fabric. The final garment achieves cohesion through the use of nature-inspired colors and motifs, and naturally draped asymmetrical flowy lines and silhouettes, which add harmonious cohesiveness to the design.
