Abstract

This study intends to understand the rise of the leftover clothing market from the export-oriented apparel industry by analyzing the perspectives of local resellers and consumers through a qualitative approach. A snowball sampling strategy was used to enroll the participants, and a total of 19 interviews were conducted (10 consumers (6 male, 4 female), 9 resellers). The themes that emerged from the interview data are organized as causes and impacts of the rise of the market and consumers' and sellers' perspectives. The findings suggest that there is a lack of implementation policy for brand protection in Bangladesh. The market has created many small businesses and generated significant employment. Participants agree that leftover clothes sold at a cheaper price give them more and more options, keeping them up to date with fast fashion trends. Sellers are confident about the stability of the supply chain of these leftover clothes.
