Abstract

This study explores an industry-oriented learning project implemented in a Midwestern university's apparel product development course. Students who collaborated with Champion™ and the university's collegiate bookstore designed and developed a collegiate "Super Fan" apparel collection. The project, structured in two phases, emphasized consumer-focused research, trend analysis, and iterative design, fostering real-world engagement. Students benefited from critical feedback from industry stakeholders, enhancing their technical and creative skills. Despite challenges in communication and creativity, the initiative succeeded in bridging academia and industry, producing market-ready designs, and providing a replicable framework for future partnerships. The findings offer valuable insights into enhancing pedagogical strategies for industry-oriented education in apparel disciplines.
