Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the functional, expressive, and aesthetic elements of apparel design that contribute tosuccessful fashion projects in reward-based crowdfunding campaigns in SouthKorea and the United States. Text data from crowdfunding fashion projects werecollected from Kickstarter, Indiegogo, Wadiz, and Tumblbug, which are among thelargest crowdfunding platforms in the United States and South Korea. Throughtext-mining analysis, we extracted design elements from fashion products andanalyzed the co-occurrence frequency of associated design elements related tofunctionality, expressiveness, and aesthetics. As a result, in terms of thefrequency of vocabulary analysis in general, 'fabric' and 'size' were observedwith the highest frequency in the United States, while 'size' and 'color' wereprominent in South Korea. Additionally, the study observed that the UnitedStates emphasized functional design, while South Korea focused on aestheticdesign.
