Design Competition

The design challenge was to create a tea-length dress and coat that emphasized the design element texture. Garment patterns were created using a combination of traditional draping and flat pattern methods. The surface disruption in the fabric was created by stitching three layers of silk together diagonally at 1/2" inch intervals, and then cutting through one or two of the layers. The fabric was then washed and dried several times to make the fabrics ripple and curl. The dress fits very close to the body and has one supporting shoulder strap.
