Don’t Worry She’ll Put It in Her Faux-Pocket: Gendered Differences in Pocket Availability and Function in Childrenswear Bifurcated Garments

Abstract

It is recommended that children live active lifestyles. This vigorous activity requires functional clothing that accommodates the ability to carry items in order to have their hands free to play. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine current childrenswear product assortments for a) inclusion of pockets, b) number of pockets c) pockets types, and d) pocket placement. Analysis of 901 childrenswear pant product description revealed gendered differences related to pockets which occurred in availability of pockets, number of pockets, types of pockets and location of pockets.
