Abstract

Throwing athletes require proper scapular posturing to achieve consistent performance. Typically, this is achieved with scapular taping. To simulate these taping methods in performance apparel, a posture cueing mechanism of encased elastic straps were integrated into this sports bra. Adjustments to the pattern were made to accommodate a larger bust size, breast tissue distribution, and a feminine appearance while wearing a sports bra. Performance stretch fabrics were used as research it improves an athlete’s performance. The main fabric is a digitally printed wet performance fabric. Patternmaking for large-busted and athletic female body shapes are limited and this garment provides a platform for continued research in this area. Additionally, this posture cueing sports bra opens additional research opportunities not only apparel design but biomechanical applications to improve posture and performance through sports bra design.
