Abstract

Collision explores the upcycling of pre-consumer textile waste using apparel computer aided design software. While upcycling has been identified as the best method for reducing the amount of textile waste generated during the production and consumption of apparel, upcycled design scholarship tends to focus on the use of post-consumer textile waste or pattern optimization. Pre-consumer textile waste, however, differs from upcycling second-hand clothing or creating zero-waste patterns. This garment design therefore contributes to upcycled design scholarship in using EFI Optitex to upcycle two yards of pre-consumer textile waste collected from manufacturers and subcontractors working under the direction of United Dry Goods in Bengaluru, India.
