Abstract

The Shelter in Place Convertible Poncho was designed for a fictional future scenario where the “heroes" live in a dystopian society in which a corporation rose to power by consolidating the entire population into one workforce. The lifestyles of the citizens are restricted. They are not allowed to leave the corporate centers and all recreational activities are eliminated.

"The Runners” as they call themselves, revolt and sneak out to take part in illegal activities. The product inspired by hunting blinds and made out of scavenged garbage was designed to avoid detection and capture by the corporate power’s police force as well as provide shelter, coverage and protection.

Although this project was created for a fictional group of people this product is relevant in a world where Covid-19 exists and homelessness affects so many in our community. The shelter that converts to a jacket is a concept that should be explored for those not having the luxury of sheltering at home.
