Beyond Land Acknowledgments: How ISU can Support Indigenous Communities

Author:

Abstract

Land Grant Institutions were established in the mid and late 1800s through under-duress signed treaties, land theft, and purchases from Tribal Groups. Given ISU's status, I will examine what ISU is currently doing to serve the states and regional Tribal Communities and share several solutions for improving the ability of ISU to support Native students and faculty and staff. In particular, I will talk about ways to work with the Meskwaki Nation, Iowa only extant Tribal group.
