Abstract

Mary Jo Gonzales, Associate Dean of Students, came to Iowa State University in October 2007. As a first generation college student and woman of color, Mary Jo has dedicated her life to leading programs to help individuals achieve their academic, personal, social, and professional goals. She currently serves as the Diversity Area Awards Chair for the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators' Excellence Awards and Co-Chair of the Latinos in Higher Education Institute. For the past two years, she has Co-Chaired College Board's Preparate: Educating Latinos for the Future of America National Conference.

In 2013, Mary Jo was named as a Women Impacting ISU for her role in mentoring students and was honored for "cultivating a community focused on student success." She was recently named Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at the University of Rhode Island. Mary Jo received her bachelor's degree from San Jose State University, and has a Master's and Doctorate from Washington State University.
