The International Society for Agricultural Safety and Health (ISASH) invites abstract submissions for the 2022 Annual Conference in Fort Collins, Colorado, USA. The 2022 theme is “From Pastures to Processing: Connecting people to elevate health and safety across the food system”. The deadline for oral presentation abstracts was extended to March 7th.

Throughout the conference, Colorado State University’s pandemic preparedness team’s public health guidelines will be followed. These are updated as the University continues to monitor community risk levels.

Several types of submissions are sought:

  • Research abstracts
    • Standard oral presentations (15 minutes)
    • Program and research posters (36x48 inch poster)
  • Workshop abstracts (50 minutes)
    • Each workshop should include 1-3 facilitators and interactive components and active engagement from attendees
    • Should conclude with 1-3 practical implications or skills for attendees
  • Symposium abstracts (50 minutes)
    • Include 3-4 speakers, with 1 discussant
    • Presentations should tie together themes, but not components of same project or line of inquiry
    • Each presenter should speak for ~15 minutes
    • Discussant should not be a presenter

ISASH is an organization dedicated to the professional development of agricultural safety and health professionals, providing national and international leadership in preventing agricultural injuries and illnesses to the agricultural community. ISASH provides opportunities for sharing information about research and intervention programs, improving professional skills and knowledge, networking and other supportive activities.

Focus and Scope

Submissions addressing any aspect of agriculture, forestry, and fishing health will be considered. All submissions are to be in English, the official language of the conference.If you are submitting more than one abstract, create a separate submission for each. Each abstract should be written in Word or an equivalent word processing program. Abstracts should be between 300 and 500 words and should include the following sections:

  • Introduction to, need, and significance of issue
  • Innovation of concept, methodology, program, or intervention
  • Results or outcomes of program. For workshop or symposium abstracts, discuss topics and learning activities planned.
  • Implications of and contribution to agricultural safety and health.

ISASH conferences are designed for agricultural safety professionals and practitioners who are interested in health and safety research, education, practice, and policy. ISASH members and conference participants represent a growing number of countries.

ISASH encourages presentations on specific safety and health themes as they apply in agricultural settings. This includes a broad range of efforts and techniques aimed at reducing hazards and improving the safety and health of agricultural producers, family members, employees, and visitors to farms, ranches, and other agricultural worksites.

ISASH is committed to facilitating the development of future agricultural safety and health professionals and researchers. For this reason, students are strongly encouraged to submit their research to ISASH on the topics noted below. In addition to presenting research, students will have opportunities for professional development and networking.

Submission Checklist

The submission process involves 5 steps. First, if you have not already, create an account. If you have submitted ISASH abstracts previously, you may already have a user account in the system. Open the submission link and complete the information. Add yourself as the author and confirm your status as the main author, if appropriate. Upload your document. Check the submission for errors and submit.

Presentations in the following topic areas are encouraged. You are encouraged to add 2-3 keywords where indicated on your abstract.

  • Working with livestock
  • Grain bin safety
  • Machine and equipment safety
  • Pesticide safety and agricultural chemical exposures
  • Measuring and evaluating programs in agricultural safety and health
  • Future of agricultural safety and health

Peer Review

All abstracts are peer-reviewed by ISASH Professional Improvement Committee or experts selected by the committee.
