Abstract
Cool season grasses, particularly tall fescue dominate pastures in southern Iowa, however, it can be hard to reliably estimate the quality of pastures over time. The primary purpose of data collected in this study was to characterize the nutritional profile of the pasture first calf heifers grazed during a pre-breeding supplementation study. The objective of this observational study is to describe the forage quality of unimproved, fescue based, cool season pasture in south central Iowa during the early grazing season (May – July).
