Abstract

To better focus manuscript collection activity, staff of the State Archives and Historical Research Library at the State Historical Society of North Dakota have developed a technique for manuscript collection development analysis. This technique employs a system to assess subject content and research values of manuscript collections and includes a statistical analysis method to determine various collection attributes. The results of the analysis are data indicating collection strengths and collection development needs. With this information archivists are better able to build and strengthen a manuscript collection.
