Abstract

As the fashion industry starts to rethink the fast fashion business model, it will need to employ designers who are aware of the myriad of decisions in determining how to reduce the enviornmental impacts of their garments. We propose the use of a Design Canvas which guides the first year college student through the decision making process of a single design. This tool uses a problem-based learning approach to encourage the student to explore different issues, inform their decision-making and understand the interconnectivity of the process of apparel design. Students can continue to use this framework through their college years and beyond.
