Biography
Alexia is a PhD candidate in Sociology with a graduate minor in Women's and Gender Studies. She holds a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies (Criminal Justice) and a M.S. in Sociology from Iowa State University. Her research interests examine how race, class, and gender intersect to shape the experiences of Black girls with discipline in schooling and the criminal justice system. Her decision to get involved with the Journal of Critical Thought and Praxis was birthed out of a tradition of critically interrogating systems of power, oppression, and injustice as well as a need to create social change. Having an academic background in Sociology, Women’s and Gender Studies, African American Studies and a passion for social justice, compelled her to critically engage with scholars nationally and internationally from a variety of disciplines on issues of social justice. Alexia is excited to serve as Senior Editor for the Journal after holding positions as Editor and Editor for Outreach previously.
