Pronounced Piety
Abstract
While previous studies have mainly utilized flower and bird motifs from minhwa, this research focuses on the theme of letters, specifically the hyojedo, which represents the value of family in Korean culture. The study defines superimposition as the main design principle and implements it through various techniques, such as repetition of linear elements, layering geometric patterns on the original image, and folding fabrics to create multiple layers. This reflects the Korean aesthetic of superposition. By harmoniously combining the symbolic letters and images of the hyojedo with geometric patterns, the study created visually appealing women's clothing that reminds the wearer and the viewer of important Korean cultural values while also adding a sense of modernity. Overall, the study demonstrates an innovative approach to fashion design that integrates traditional Korean cultural symbols and values with modern design principles, resulting in a unique and meaningful interpretation of cultural heritage.
