Abstract

This study aims to analyze the clothing repair contents in Korean national curricula to understand how perceptions of repair vary by age and education level, with the goal of informing lifelong education programs. The research examines the practical arts and home economics curricula from 1955 to 2015, focusing on official guidelines and specific revisions. The findings reveal that clothing repair education initially focused on girls, later expanded to both genders, and shifted from repair to creating household items and upcycling in response to environmental concerns. The study highlights the need for targeted repair education for males who experienced the 1st to 4th curricula and individuals educated under the 5th to 7th and 2015 curricula. Additionally, for individuals who have already received repair education, introducing clothing repair methods tailored to their past educational experiences can empower them to directly mend their clothes or seek assistance from professionals, promoting sustainable practices.
