An Exploratory Study of the Accuracy of Parametric Avatars in Browzwear VStitcher
Abstract
This study examines the accuracy of parametric avatars in Browzwear VStitcher, a computer-aided design (CAD) tool for 3D apparel simulation. It compares parametric avatars, which can be customized for specific body measurements and postures, with body scanning avatars generated from actual body scans. Four models with different body shapes were analyzed to evaluate the precision of parametric avatars in replicating body characteristics. The findings indicate that despite VStitcher’s capabilities for avatar creation, discrepancies in body representation, such as posture alignment and fat distribution, persist. These discrepancies can affect the fit and appearance of the simulated garments compared to their real counterparts. The study suggests that for customized garment production, body scanning avatars offer greater accuracy, thereby improving fit precision. This research provides valuable insights for sourcing companies, technical designers, and CAD developers aiming to refine 3D apparel simulation technology.
