Abstract

This research investigates whether Bangladesh’s apparel managers are technologically ready to adopt sustainable technologies and how their technology readiness and other factors impact their intention to adopt sustainable technology. A conceptual model was developed that examines how apparel managers’ personal traits (involvement and apparel technology knowledge) impact their sustainable technology readiness, and how their readiness, social influence, facilitating conditions, and relative advantage impact their adoption intention toward sustainable technology. An online survey was conducted to collect data from the managers of Bangladeshi export-oriented apparel firms using a structured questionnaire. A two-stage structural equation modeling (SEM) technique was used to assess the model and test the research hypotheses. Findings suggest that apparel managers with a high knowledge of apparel technology will have a higher readiness level toward sustainable technology. The perceived relative advantage of sustainable technology and social influence positively impact managers’ intention to adopt sustainable technology.
