Abstract

This study aimed to examine the influence of sustainable packaging criteria (SPC) on consumers’ environmental behavior. Specific objectives were to (a) validate the existing SPC as a scale and (b) develop and test a theoretical research model to examine the influence of SPC on consumers’ environmental attitude, intention, and behavior of using sustainable packaging. An online survey was conducted with a nationwide convenience sample of men and women whose age was 18 years old and over living in the U.S.The total 1,604 usable sample was used for data analysis. The SPC scale was validated to measure the sustainable packaging standard, which is a unique and innovative aspect of this study. The results revealed the significant positive influence of SPC on consumers’ environmental knowledge and green purchase intention. Limitations and implications for future research were also discussed.
