Ode to Joy

Authors: , ,

Abstract

The design challenge was to create an artwear coat as a gift for a significant friend/muse that was imbued with meaning without appearing like a folkwear costume. The intent was to create a subtle image of the Chinese character for "Joy" that would appear or disappear depending on the visual field of the viewer. The silk-rayon velvet in the coat was hand-dyed. The Chinese character was painted by Kai-Ho Mah and embossed onto the coat back using freezer paper.
