Design Competition

The purpose of this project was to demonstrate one of a series of recycled fabric designs. TI-ED is a strapless knee length evening dress made from men's neck ties. My goal was to use fitting techniques that incorporated draping and neck tie shape application in one of a series of re-used materials designed for the contemporary fashion. The challenge of this design was created by using 18 100% silk used men's neck ties in assorted colors, textures, lengths, widths, and shapes. Fifteen of the neck ties were paisley and three were of different patterns. Draping techniques were used to solve fitting problems and create this project. Hand stitches were used to complete the garment and a side zipper was installed to assemble a fitted bodice.
