Abstract

Virtual reality (VR) technology and head-mounted display (HMD)  first advanced itself in the early 60s (Zimmermann, 2008) but used only for flight simulators and military equipment due to its cost. Development in VR devices such as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive led by the industry granted affordability to the public and made possible the VR experience even to the individual users. Ever since, the growth of interest regarding VR revealed itself in numerous industrial attempts to adapt the technology into their fields. Fashion industry is no exception. As VR provides a cost-effective method to evaluate fashion retail store design while closely mimicking brick-and-mortar shopping experience, mainstream of VR related research focuses on the use of VR in fashion marketing sense rather than in design. Therefore, this paper aims to bring VR-specifically, VRAD (Virtual Reality Aided Design) which is currently used in engineering design- to fashion design procedure.
