Agency Through Symbolic Communication: Employing Spiral Pattern Principles

Abstract

The use of dress as a symbolic device to communicate meaning can hold important significance in advocating for agency. This design celebrates the Suffragette’s use of white as a symbolically ambiguous symbol for social equality. The project uses all-natural unbleached fabrics and introduces new ways of pattern development that builds on previous work in innovative spiral draping techniques.
