Keynote—The Trailer Park Ph.D.: Building Community in the Sciences at ISU and Beyond

Abstract

Dr. Welch will share his journey from a Montana trailer park, the strengths of being a first-generation, low-income, Northern Cheyenne member, and how these values led to the founding of the Iowa State University STEM Scholars program. Dr. Welch will discuss aligning his values with the scientific research that he has done, how these skills have helped him create the STEM Scholars community, and how he's involved in national DEI efforts.
