Abstract

This presentation focuses on the benefits, challenges, and needs of a student group called Queer People of Color (OPOC). where students of color who self-identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, or queer can engage in dialogue about intersecting identities. The need for such a group on the Iowa State University campus will be addressed, and the challenges to meet those needs wi ll be outlined. The intersection of racial, ethnic. and sexual identities among college students calls for a safe and supportive environment for conversation. QPOC attempts to address those needs.
